What You Need to Know About STDs
STD statistics show that there has been a steady rise of such cases not only in the United States but across the globe. To be more specific the rise in syphilis among men and women are big contributors to this trend. If it is not Syphilis, then the it is Chlamydia and gonorrhea that contributes a big part in the STD statistics as well.
The problem with STD statistics is that it is likely to be inaccurate. There are chances that the current STD statistics do not have a number of undetected cases because STDs like Chlamydia rarely develop symptoms. Needless to say the rise in the numbers are still alarming.
The STD statistics then shows that many people around you may be suffering from either gonorrhea, chlamydia or syphilis. For instance, ten years ago in the united States, there were more or less a million people documented to be suffering from Chlamydia. That number was obviously higher than the one that was recorded a year ago. Moreover, about 350,000 had gonorrhea in that same year. The number appears to grow higher each year.
Simply put, the statistics shows that the most common STDs are gonorrhea and chlamydia. Chlamydia is not hard to diagnose even if the symptoms are not showing. Gonorrhea is also not that hard to diagnose. The good news is that when diagnosed early, they can be treated. There is a chance that these two STDs can lead to problems like infertility or PID in women if left untreated. Women may see more complications like ectopic pregnancy and chronic pelvic pain.
Although men suffer from chlamydia less, this does not mean that they can’t be affected by complications. Oppositely, gonorrhea poses more health risks among. Aside from the risk of infertility, the infection could spread to the blood or to the joints. There have been worst cases that end up in fatality.
What is this trying to tell us. This goes to show that awareness about STDs should be increased. Awareness is the key to avoiding STDs and knowing what to do if you get it.
As the numbers on the STD statistics rise, so should the peoples need for safety practice. The statistics is a subtle reminder that there is a big risk of STDs when you have multiple partners. The right use of latex can also help avoid the spread of these diseases.
Get your self checked if you have someone new in your life. And if your partner had been cheating, get yourself screened as well. Awareness will help keep the numbers low.
